Brushed DC motors use an armature, which acts as a two-pole electromagnet. A commutator is a mechanical rotary switch that reverses the direction of current twice per cycle. In contrast, a brushless motor uses permanent magnets as its outer rotor. And brushless DC motors don’t have brushes, which means they require less maintenance and are a bit more efficient than brushed motors.
